School Overview:

Rooted School Las Vegas exists to accelerate upward mobility for underserved youth in Las Vegas, NV. The fourth in a national network of high-achieving schools, RSLV will bring an innovative education model to Clark County with the support of a national backbone organization, Rooted School Foundation.

Rooted’s goal is that all RSLV students graduate from high school with a job offer in one hand and a college acceptance letter in the other. Rooted’s student-centered model provides scholars with self-directed learning pathways, project-based learning, and industry-based internships and credentials to help them achieve academic success and prepare for a high-paying career.

Opening its doors in 2024, RSLV will serve 360 students annually when all grades (9-12) are filled. 66% of students are projected to be from low-Income families, 43% are projected to be Latinx students, and the school anticipates serving students receiving ELL services (14%).

Overview of the Role:

In partnership with the Executive Director, the Principal provides academic and instructional leadership for Rooted School Las Vegas. This person also oversees and manages the implementation, review, and revision of the curriculum at the school level; manages the academic functions and outcomes of the grade 9 -12 secondary school; supervises school staff regarding instruction, assessments, student programs, and other academic issues.

Areas of Responsibility Include (but are not limited to):.

  • Maintains a positive and safe school climate for the purpose of providing a safe and healthy educational setting for staff and students.
  • Plans/ensures high-quality curriculum design and delivery for the purpose of meeting state standards for curriculum and instruction, program goals, and student needs.
  • Prepares/presents data for the purpose of keeping a variety of reports, records, and statistical data regarding assessments, attendance, etc.
  • Serves as instructional leader for the purpose of aligning state standards with academic and program goals.
  • Supervises/evaluates staff for the purpose of improving instructional services.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with staff and students from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds with a commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • A completed post-baccalaureate secondary teacher certification and/or a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Government, Public Policy, or other relevant programs.
  • Valid Nevada State Administrator License preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of state Standards Successful instructional and discipline practices.
  • Knowledge of current educational approaches to literacy Modern Principles and practices of school administration, as well as academic coursework to be taught and teaching methods for the 21st-century classroom.
  • Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analyses and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs.
  • Knowledge of personnel administration, supervision, and training.
  • Experience with and analyses of state, local, and teacher-developed assessments.
